A salary number needs a definition
Junior, mid-level, and senior are hiring labels, not international standards. A senior tester at a small agency can own less scope than a mid-level engineer on a regulated platform.
Salary sites also measure different things. Government statistics usually group occupations. Job boards analyze advertised ranges. Employee surveys can report base pay or total compensation.
Use the figures below as market anchors. Compare your responsibilities, location, employment type, and compensation components before you compare the numbers.
Current regional pay signals
The strongest public sources do not provide a consistent junior, mid-level, and senior split for every market. The table therefore preserves each source's own measure.
A low, median, and high wage distribution is not a career ladder. Age, industry, city, company type, and job scope can move pay without changing a title.

What changes between career levels
Junior QA engineers usually work within an existing strategy. They investigate bounded changes, report clear evidence, and ask for help when risk extends beyond their context.
Mid-level engineers take broader ownership. They select test approaches, examine APIs and data, improve feedback loops, and coordinate risks across several contributors.
Senior engineers shape quality decisions across systems or teams. Their pay reflects technical depth, influence, ambiguity, and business consequences more than a fixed number of years.
Use salary evidence in a real negotiation
Collect two or three sources for your city and role family. Record the source date, sample method, pay type, and whether bonuses, equity, pension, or mandatory benefits are included.
Write your scope in business terms. Include the systems you own, decisions you improve, incidents you diagnose, and risks you can investigate without close direction.
Give a reasoned range instead of one global average. Recheck live listings before an interview because a 2026 article is a snapshot, not a promise about today's offer.
